FAQs
What is pediatric Occupational Therapy?
Pediatric occupational therapy helps children and families to promote functional independence in all their “occupations” – and for children, their occupations are activities that enable them to learn and develop life skills, be creative and play, and thrive in their relationships with others.
Pediatric OT’s help children build a variety of skills such as:
· Fine motor
· Gross motor
· Visual motor
· Executive functioning
· Sensory processing
· Self-regulation and emotional regulation
And more!
Is Heart of Nature OT right for my child?
At Heart of Nature OT, we serve a diverse range of children with unique needs. Our specialized therapy sessions are designed to accommodate children aged 1 and above, providing tailor-made sessions that address both the child and their family’s goals.
How do I get started with Nature-Based Occupational Therapy?
For individual therapy sessions, the process starts with an intake call. After that, we schedule an evaluation and find a time and location that works for you. Fill out the Contact Form below.
Why outdoor OT?
Continual research underscores the positive impact of nature on health, wellbeing, academic performance, and overall development. Harnessing the outdoors enhances the effectiveness of therapy, facilitating children’s progress towards their physical, social, and cognitive potential.
Instead of balancing on a balance beam, we might use rocks.
Instead of playing with shaving cream, we might play in the mud.
Instead of building with blocks, we may build with sticks.
Can being outdoors help with handwriting?
Yes! We focus on building the fundamental skills that are essential for successful handwriting. Simply practicing handwriting extensively won’t yield results unless these foundational skills are established beforehand.
-Visual integration
-Bilateral Coordination
-Object manipulation
-Postural control
-Grasp strength
The lists goes on!
Do you cancel sessions for bad weather?
Nope! We prepare and play outdoors in all kinds of weather. In the case of heavy snow, we would only cancel if the weather conditions posed a hazard to the children (for example, strong winds, or blizzards). Sessions are also canceled for poor air quality during fire season or if the temperature is below 20 with wind child during Colorado winters. We will help you know how to best dress your child so that all weather is enjoyable.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time we don’t accept insurance. We believe in high quality care with high quality results. To ensure we deliver top-quality care to our families, we opt not to bill insurance for our services and are not affiliated with any health insurance networks. This grants us the flexibility to practice in the most effective manner to serve your family’s needs, unconstrained by insurance limitations. As a result, your child often experiences accelerated progress and may require shorter duration of services.
